We live in a world increasingly fractured by an inability to speak to one another across differences with love and respect. We need skills of the heart and mind to heal our relationships and speak our truth without needless division and hurt.
Conflict resolution skills are often presented as if there is a magic formula that will make conflict disappear if you just ‘say it right’. Of course, there are language skills that help when we are in conflict- like “I” statements and staying specific. However, these skills must be paired with a recognition of the value of the relationship. Often our first step is simply to listen deeply- to ourselves and to the other person, in an attempt to better understand and be understood. Once we can see the other person as valuable we are able to take the necessary steps to let go, confront, or make requests, depending on what the situation calls for. This is the heart of my approach in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation workshops.
The Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation workshop can be tailored to the needs of your particular group. Topics can include:
- Understanding family and cultural influences on conflict
- Learning about our personal conflict style
- Developing skills for dealing with anger
- Assertiveness and non-violent language
- How to have compassion in conflict
- And we will practice these skills in role plays
The workshop can be fun, rewarding and a great team building experience!
